Chance to be Chancellor

Chance to be Chancellor challenges young people to take on the role of Chancellor and create a budget for the country using an interactive web-based tool.

Launching in January 2012 and closing at the end of February – just before the Budget, students will be encouraged to experiment with the interactive tool to consider the consequences of their decisions, before submitting their Budget.

How can you help?
  • The sessions that you are facilitating as volunteers will help your class to prepare for this challenge.
  • Talk to the class teacher and the students themselves to encourage them to take part.
  • There will be extra resources available on the Paying for It website to help students take part in the challenge.
  • Plan your sixth session to fall between January and end February so that you can run the Chance to be Chancellor session as a great way to conclude the Paying for It experience.
What will they have to do?

Entrants will learn about the current challenges facing the Chancellor and prioritise the tax and spend policies that they think are the most important for Budget 2012.

All the submissions will be collated into the Youth Budget 2012  in order to provide a youth perspective on the Budget 2012. In addition to this, the best entries (from a series of categories) will win great prizes, see their entries published by The Times newspaper, and be invited to showcase their work at the HM Treasury.
