Aviva demonstrates commitment to employee volunteering by allowing its employees to attract 21 hours of paid leave each year to volunteer. Paying for It provides a robust framework for employees to build a productive relationship with a local secondary school by sharing their skills and experience of finance and business to help develop economic education in secondary schools.
Employee volunteers facilitate active learning around issues relevant to Aviva UK’s core business, including the economic elements of citizenship & PSHE (Personal, Social, Health & Economics) education. The programme covers information regarding public spending, including topics on: health, environment, employment and education, and is supported by specially designed materials, created by the Citizenship Foundation.
The objectives of the Paying for It employee volunteering programme are:
- To deliver a minimum of six sessions within a partnered school
- To develop students’ communication and analytical skills
- To improve knowledge amongst young people on the impact of economic decisions on society
- To maintain and build on the Paying for It programme’s position of leadership in the field of education for ‘economic awareness’
- To develop employee volunteers’ professional skills and knowledge
- To offer employees a unique way of satisfying some of their personal development needs
