One Million Young People Out of Work

January 6th, 2012 No Comments

Young people are disproportionately affected by the current economic climate as they lose out to more experienced workers in the tough competition for jobs. It is now estimated that over 1 million people aged 16-25 are currently unemployed.

In a interview with The Times ( http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/news/politics/article3227799.ece ) MP David Miliband described the issue of youth unemployment as a “timebomb” and urged the current government to implement “extraordinary measures”.

What problems can your students identify as relating to the lack of jobs for younger people? Can they distinguish between short term and potential longer term issues?
