Due on the 5 December, the Autumn Statement (released by the Chancellor) looks set to confirm that the UK economy is still struggling to grow. The statement provides a forecast on the country’s financial outlook as well as an update on the Government’s economic plan.
With much expectation that the Government will announce a change in its current plan for reducing the national debt to promote economic growth, why not use the Autumn Statement as an opportunity to look at these issues in the classroom. Here are a few suggestions:
- Explain ‘national debt’ in 3 minutes with this short video from The Daily Politics;
- Explore how the UK’s national debt compares with those from other countries with the Economists’ interactive charts;
- Get your students to take on the challenges facing the Government with our new government & economy lesson plan;
- Tune into BBC Parliament at 12.30pm on the 5 December to watch the Chancellor deliver the Autumn Statement to the country.
